Čavojská, Lenka ; Andrš, Dušan (advisor) ; Lomová, Olga (referee)
The main aim of the thesis is to provide an analysis of the prose Hongchen by the contemporary writer Ma Jian, and shed some light on the semantic structure of the work. The prose Hongchen is a literary depiction of the author's three-year journey in China and two-month wandering around Tibet in the mid nineteen eighties. The first part of the thesis presents Ma Jian's writing in a wider literary-historical context with a special regard to genre analysis, hence chapter three examines the tradition of travel literature in China and closely defines this literary genre. In the analytical part special attention is given to changes in the protagonist and his interaction with his surroundings. It also introduces the prose Hongchen in the context of the author's short story writing with the theme of Tibet in a collection of short stories Stick out your tongue or everything is just a void.
